Vigna Astroni

Campi Flegrei dop Falanghina – CRU

Strione

Campania igp Falanghina – CRU

Strione is produced from the highest and best-exposed vines of Vigna Astroni, on the outer slopes of the crater of the same name. An intense and concentrated interpretation of Campi Flegrei Falanghina, it is made exclusively in the finest vintages.

The grapes come from selected parcels characterised by naturally low yields and particularly favourable exposure, set within volcanic soils with a pyroclastic matrix.

The Guyot-trained vines are harvested by hand in October. The grapes are destemmed and gently crushed, followed by extended skin contact during a significant part of the alcoholic fermentation, allowing for greater extraction and complexity.

Intense and brilliant golden yellow in colour, the wine is complex, deep and persistent on the nose.

The bouquet unfolds gradually in the glass, revealing floral notes of chamomile, followed by ripe fruit aromas of apricot and yellow peach. Citrus nuances then emerge, leading to a subtly spicy finish.

On the palate, freshness, structure and persistence are clearly defined, accompanied by pronounced minerality and characteristic salinity, expressing its distinctive sense of place and remarkable ageing potential.

The Grapes

Falanghina Campi Flegrei

Falanghina probably originates from ancient Greek-Balkan grape varieties and appears to owe its name to its naturally spreading growth habit. Traditionally, the vines were tied to supporting poles known as “falanga”, hence the name Falanghina, meaning “vine supported by poles”. The variety has medium-sized, long and compact cylindrical bunches, typically winged on one side. The berries are medium-sized and spherical, with thick skins covered by a moderate bloom and displaying greyish tones with yellow highlights. Falanghina is a fairly vigorous variety, with consistent, moderate yields. Harvest generally begins from the third week of September onwards.

Design and Visual Identity

The Language of the Labels

The name refers to the Strioni, figures of sorcerers from local tradition.

According to ancient tales, the Astroni Crater was inhabited by sorcerers and Cyclopes, guardians of a place suspended between myth and nature.

The label evokes this imagery through the symbol of the eye, a mysterious and magnetic element. A visual sign that reveals the most arcane soul of the Campi Flegrei, where wine is born from a land shaped by history, volcanoes and legend.
